Senator Olympia Snow, the first woman in US history to be elected to both houses of state legislature and both houses of congress also serves as Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee. Senator Snow has stated that, “Americans need more options to help them provide for their families. The ability to work from home is an essential means of achieving that goal.”

Helping Others Through Kiva

I was excited to be able to make another loan today with Kiva. Today the loan of $25 was made to Almend Caay from Sapang Dalaga, Philippines.

Almend Caay is from the village of Guinabot. She is 36 years old, married and has 2 school-aged children. Almend owns and operates a food market, selling foods and delicacies in the local community. Almend has been engaged in her business for 7 years. This is actuall her 8th laon made through organizations like to KIve to help expand her business and provide for her family.She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve her family’s general living conditions.

It is rewarding to get that email….saying your loan has been repaid and fun in slecting another person or group to help.

Recently there was a huge collection of voices that made a difference regarding the killing of whales.
Hundreds of thousand of people from around the world told their governments to support policies that protect whales, not kill them.

W.E. Women’s Empowerment Call Tonight, June 21.

Hi everyone…. just a reminder about our W.E. call tonight Monday, June 21st. at 7:30 PM PT. On our short call(approx. 20 minutes) we will share ways to find some peace and JOY in our sometimes chaotic lives.

Joy can be your light that becomes a beacon for all those in your life you encounter. Joy is infectious and love is very healing to all. Sheri will show you that you do not have to have a prestigious title, be a famed star or a person with great material assets. You only need to have the desire to fully find your own Joy in living your true self and taking this found Joy and inspiring others to do the same.

To find your own Joy may mean stepping outside of your comfort zone by learning something new, surrounding yourself with positive people, experiencing forgiveness, gratitude and or learning how to change your thinking from “smallness.” We must always remember, life is not truly served by playing small.”

Shopping Tips

I just came across these shopping tips in a recent article in the San Diego Natural Guide and thought I would pass them on to you.

An average person throws out almost 4 pounds of waste a day. Over the course of a year, that’s almost a ton of garbage per person.

Before making a purchase, ask yourself these questions:

1. Do I really need this?

2. Can I borrow or rent it?

3. Can it be recycled, re-used or repaired?

4. How much energy and resources were consumed to create this and transport it to  me?

5. Can I get it in a form that has recycled content, was grown organically or has less packaging? (1/5 of our waste is from packaging)

6. Was this product produced in an environmentally sustainable and socially just manner?

7. Even if this product seems sustainable, do I really want my money to go to this company?

Hmmm…something to think about! Even if you can just take one or two of these tips and put them into practice…you will be making a difference.
